Golf Leagues are Big in Michigan

 By Kate Moore

When you start something, you don’t always know if you have a winner or not.

This was not the case with the Michigan Golf Course Association Golf League Championship Tournament as it seemed to be a winning formula from the start. And, quite remarkably, we’ve stayed true to course these past 13 years.

The Golf League Championship was designed to be an event like no other; to serve golfers that otherwise didn’t have representation in golf.  Essentially, 2-person team leagues throughout the state that elect to use the Golf League Network application can send their champions to the event.  The enjoyment level has been clear as we hear from players who have succeeded in coming back to the event over the years.  To them, it’s their number one tournament… what they aim for year after year.

The event is open for male, female and co-ed teams to participate.  It is truly equal opportunity as teams of any variety can qualify and historically all have enjoyed the unique mix the event offers.  We also have been blessed to have a great group of course ownership and leaders who have invested their goodwill in getting the GLC launched at their clubs.

The partnership with Handicomp has been exceptional, as they’ve developed and maintained the Golf League Network, the technical foundation that’s been the glue of the GLC since its inception.  The great consistency and the value that goes therewith cannot be understated. And, since the GLN offers the Recreational Golf Handicap System the event is served with equitable handicaps and in 13 years we have not had a single issue of sandbagging; quite a remarkable achievement.

So, if yours is a course that hosts leagues or if you are simply a league player looking for more – point in the direction of www.MiGolfLeague.com and endorse the Golf League Network and the MGCA Golf League Championship Tournament.  You’ll be happy you did.
