The Michigan golf season might seem a long way off, but actually some significant golf will take place beginning in February for all the college golf teams in our state. So, check out pages 20-25 to see overviews of our 2 Big Ten and 3 MAC conference schools.
The French Lick Resort in southern Indiana is on the cover, also to entice and remind us Michiganders that the golf season begins earlier in that region near the Kentucky border than it does in our state, so it’s not long now before we should clean up our clubs. Maybe you should get out there and hit the heated driving ranges and indoor swing facilities… or check out the famous Demo Days at Carl’s Golfland to tryout the latest equipment.
The main feature story for this month is on LPGA legend Meg Mallon, the most recent inductee into the World Golf Hall of Fame. What a wonderful and delightful person Meg is. Hopefully the one-on-one talk she had with me will give you some new insight into her endearing personality and story of growing up in Birmingham and graduating from Farmington Hills Mercy High. Meg personifies the numerous positive aspects of the game of golf and she is a proud Michigander.
Then there are the 4 young golfers from Michigan who will represent us at Augusta National on April 1 in the Drive, Chip and Putt National Championship, to kick off Masters week. It’s the enthusiasm of young people like them who help lead the charge of drawing others their age into the game.
Hopefully you didn’t miss our inaugural issue in January – but if you did, go here: http://michigangolfjournal.com/2018/Januaryv1/
Thank you for reading the Michigan Golf Journal – I hope you get as much satisfaction reading it as I have putting it all together.
