Toledo Junior Golf Association Wraps up 2017

The Toledo Junior Golf Association (TJGA) completed its 44th season of tournament play with the TJGA Invitational and Awards Dinner July 31 at Inverness Club. Stone Oak, Maume Bay, Legacy, Toledo Country Club, Detwiler, Belmont, Highland Meadows, Forest Creason, Heather Downs, Stone Ridge, Brandywine, White Pines, South Toledo and Inverness all hosted TJGA events in 2017.

The Boy’s Invitational was won by Justin Schnebelen of St. Francis who fired a 74 over a very firm and fast Inverness course. Four players posted 75’s, Brett Montgomery, Sean Gallagher, Andrew Riggs and Ryan Fries.

Macy Hanus, from Bowling Green, also fired a 74 to take medalist honors for the Girl’s competition. Pinya Pipatjarasgit posted a 75 for runner-up and Caroline Dayton carded an 84 for third place.

It was a big night for Hanus family as both Jack and Macy were honored as TJGA’s Players of the Year. The winners of the Frank Stranahan Player of the Year for boys and the Sharon Keil Player of the Year for girls are determined by a season-long points system.

Jack Hanus recorded four wins in seven TJGA events this season, plus he finished inside the top-10 in every tournament. He will finish his Senior year at Bowling Green this year and is considering continuing his golf at Cleveland State.

Macy Hanus outdid her big brother with five wins and never finished outside the top-5 in every event she competed.

These young people are to be congratulated on their accomplishment both on the golf course and off. Jim McGill and Karen Stone devote incalculable hours assuring the TJGA events are conducted fairly and help Toledo’s Junior Golfers prepare for future golf endeavors.
