M ichigan State women’s golf coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll was inducted into the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame in mid-December, making it the second time in 2017 that Slobodnik-Stoll was inducted into a hall of fame after the same designation came in June at the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame. “It is a true honor to be inducted into the WGCA Hall of Fame,” Slobodnik-Stoll said. “I am humbled and honored to be part of a group that has done so much for women’s golf over the years, including my mentor and coach, Mary Fossum (also in the WGCA Hall of Fame). This wouldn’t be possible without all the amazing young women we recruited to wear the Green & White and who dedicated their lives to Michigan State University.” In her 20 seasons at Michigan State, Slobodnik-Stoll led the Spartans to 36 tournament wins, 18 NCAA Regional appearances (every year since 1999 except 2015), 11 trips to the NCAA Championships and six Big Ten titles (2001, ‘07, ‘11, ‘12, ‘14, ‘17). The 2017 Spartans tied for the program’s best-ever finish at an NCAA regional, placing third in Athens, and for the last six consecutive years, the women’s golf team has garnered the MSU Athletic Director’s Award for achieving the highest team cumulative GPA of any varsity team. She also claimed the individual Division 1 state title for the second consecutive time with a 36-hole 3-under par. Her scoring average in the fall of 2017 was a phenomenal 69.6, and out of the 10 rounds she played in, six were scored in the 60s and the other four were even-par. Her season low round was a 7-under 65, but more impressive was her highest was just 72. Ironically, in her first tournament of the season she had to settle for runner-up to her sister, freshman Anci Dy, who beat her by one stroke. Aside from that tournament, Anika won all her events that followed for a total of eight medalist honors. She is verbally committed to the University of Michigan.
