Designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., The Heather became Northern Michigan’s ĮƌƐƚ ŶĂƟŽŶĂůůLJͲĂĐĐůĂŝŵĞĚ golf course when it opened for play in 1966. The course has since played host to three Michigan Amateur Championships, nine AJGA Championships, the Michigan W' ^ƚĂƚĞ WƌŽͲ ŵ ϯϮ ƟŵĞƐ͕ and The Celebrity Tour. The ,ĞĂƚŚĞƌ ĐŽŶƟŶƵĞƐ ƚŽ ƌĞĐĞŝǀĞ ƉƌĂŝƐĞ ĂŶĚ ƌĞĐŽŐŶŝƟŽŶ LJĞĂƌ ĂŌĞƌ LJĞĂƌ͕ ǁŝƚŚ Golf Digest ranking it “Best in State,” among “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses,” and “Top 50 Courses for Women.” The Heather and Boyne Highlands have been an industry leader in ĐŽŶƚƌŝďƵƟŽŶƐ ƚŽ ƚŚĞ ŐĂŵĞ͘ The Heather is the home course for The First Tee of Northern Michigan and ĚŽŶĂƚĞƐ ŽĸĐĞ ƐƉĂĐĞ ŝŶ ĂƌƚůĞLJ House at Boyne Highlands Lodge.
