TEAM BOYNE’s annual Harbor Cup golf event is held each fall, when PGA professionals from KzE 'ŽůĨ͛Ɛ ƉƌŽƉĞƌƟĞƐ ĂƌĞ ƉŝƩĞĚ ĂŐĂŝŶƐƚ W' professionals from Petoskey area golf courses in a fun 54-hole Ryder Cup style format. This year, the TEAM BOYNE professionals ƐĞƚ Ă ŶĞǁ LJĞĂƌůLJ ƌĞĐŽƌĚ ƌĂŝƐŝŶŐ ŽǀĞƌ Ψϰϯ͕ϬϬϬ͘ Manna Food Project received $26,000 of it ƚŽ ƐƵƉƉůLJ ĨŽŽĚ ƚŽ ŵŽƌĞ ƚŚĂŶ ϯϱ ƉĂŶƚƌŝĞƐ ĂŶĚ agencies in Antrim, Charlevoix and Emmet ĐŽƵŶƟĞƐ͘ /Ŷ ĂĚĚŝƟŽŶ͕ Ă ĐŚĞĐŬ ĨŽƌ Ψϭϰ͕ϰϬϬ was presented to The First Tee of Northern DŝĐŚŝŐĂŶ͘ KƚŚĞƌ ŽƌŐĂŶŝnjĂƟŽŶƐ ŝŵƉĂĐƚĞĚ include the Boyne City High School girls’ tennis team ($600), and Petoskey Area Schools received $1,600 toward their girls’ golf team. Team BOYNE Harbor Cup players include Captain Bernie Friedrich; Associate Captains Bobby Wilson and Paulo Rocha, and players Dillon Bailey, Mike Fay, David McWhorter, John DLJĞƌƐ͕ ^ƚĞǀĞ EŝĞnjŐŽĚĂ͕ ^ĐŽƩ WƵƐƐĞŚů͕ ĂƐĞLJ Powers, Barry Redmond, Josh Richter and Dan dƵƌĐŽƩ͘ Boyne Golf can be found on the PGA Tour as sponsor of Petoskey native Joey Garber. A new deal was signed with Garber through the 2020 season. 'ĂƌďĞƌ ŚĂƐ ĂĚŵŝƩĞĚůLJ ƐƚƌƵŐŐůĞĚ ĞĂƌůLJ ǁŚŝůĞ ĂĚũƵƐƟŶŐ ƚŽ ŚŝƐ ŶĞǁ W' dŽƵƌ ĐĂƌĞĞƌ͕ ďƵƚ Ăƚ ƚŚĞ Tour’s Dessert Classic near Palm Springs the third week of January, Garber found himself ƟĞĚ ĨŽƌ ϱ th place with John Rahm heading into the weekend. ϯͲƵŶĚĞƌ ƉĂƌ ƚŚĂƚ ^ĂƚƵƌĚĂLJ ŬĞƉƚ ƚŚĞ Michigander close (T12) to then-leader Phil Mickelson, but a tough Sunday forced a T57 th - ƉůĂĐĞ ĮŶŝƐŚ Ăƚ ϭϭͲƵŶĚĞƌ ƉĂƌ͘ ^Ɵůů͕ 'ĂƌďĞƌ ƐŚŽǁĞĚ ƐŽŵĞ ŵĞƩůĞ ŝŶ ƚŚĞ ĚĞƐƐĞƌƚ ƚŚĂƚ ƐŚŽƵůĚ ƚƌĂŶƐůĂƚĞ ƚŽ ŐĂŝŶĞĚ ĐŽŶĮĚĞŶĐĞ͘ Garber grew up playing golf at Boyne Resorts ǁŚĞŶ ŚŝƐ ƉĂƌĞŶƚƐ ǁŽƵůĚ ĚƌŽƉ Śŝŵ Žī Ăƚ ƚŚĞ course for the day. That led to a stellar Junior career where he won three major tournaments in Michigan in 2010 alone – the Division 2 high ƐĐŚŽŽů ƐƚĂƚĞ ƟƚůĞ͕ ƚŚĞ DŝĐŚŝŐĂŶ :ƵŶŝŽƌ ^ƚĂƚĞ Amateur – and the crowning achievement – the Michigan Amateur against all the adults.
