Michigan Armed Forces Hospitality Centers to host 3 rd Annual Golf Event By Janina Parrott Jacobs The 3 rd Annual ‘Tee It Up for Freedom’ golf outing takes place Friday, August 2, 2019 at Lake Forest Golf Club in Ann Arbor in support of the Freedom Center military lounges at Detroit Metro Airport. The centers are run primarily by volunteers and over 550,000 active military and reservists, veterans, and their families have been served while on deployment or traveling since the McNamara facility opened in 2011, courtesy of major partner Delta Airlines. Located near the fountain at McNamara Gate A-34, the sole requirement for entry is proof of service or military/veteran ID. Light food, snacks, beverages as well as relaxation and travel assistance are offered. The North Terminal lounge, near Gate D-17 opened in 2016 and two military processing centers in Troy and Lansing also serve our fighting men and women. Newly appointed CEO Patrick Colbeck immediately learned about the loss of their 501 c-3 status, due to clerical errors. Through quick action, and because of the Centers’ noble purpose, the charitable status was restored quickly. Colbeck noted: “This happens to so many non-profits, often by mistake. People should know it can be restored with quick action and cooperation.” Golf outing registration, event details and sponsorship opportunities are available at www. mifreedomcenter.org . Golf 4 Heroes Scramble Supports Folds of Hono r In a similar cause for military veterans, the Golf 4 Heroes Scramble is set for July 15 at Prestwick Village in Highland – and will include golf, food, drinks and prizes at the highly-acclaimed golf course. The national Folds of Honor Foundation awards merit-based scholarships to family members of active military that have been injured or killed while serving America. In the last 3 years, 384 scholarships have been granted to Michigan recipients, but many more that were determined to be “qualified request” went unfunded nationwide.
