As a Lansing native who learned and played the game at a variety of local courses, Timber Ridge quickly became a favorite. Designed more than 30 years ago by Michigander Jerry Matthews, the East Lansing track was one of the original courses to create the “Up North” golf experience in a down-state location. To me, it always felt like after Timber Ridge came on the scene that many other courses tried to emulate the “Up North” mantra. Timber Ridge in East Lansing is now under new ownership and the immediate improvements are showing. Mid-Michigan’s golf mecca of Eagle Eye Properties bought Timber Ridge late last year and now has a portfolio that includes the original 27- hole course – Hawk Hollow (also a Matthews design) – plus Eagle Eye; the unique and fun 12-hole course, Woodside; the short course of Falcon and the real-grass 18-hole putting course, Little Hawk. Very bluntly, the Eagle Eye portfolio now has every possible form of golf for anyone – whether they are looking for various price points, gorgeous hilly terrain, challenging experiences, tournament-quality golf, kid and family-friendly options, and outings – there is literally something for anyone. On one particular Tuesday evening, a ladies’ league was flooding Timber Ridge, which tells me a lot about the ‘women- friendliness’ factor. “ We’ve more than doubled the grounds staff and it really shows in course conditions,” said Director of Golf Operations at Eagle Timber Ridge Added to Eagle Eye Portfolio By Tom Lang Michigan Golf Journal Course Review
