Michigan Golf Journal September 2019

Michigan Golf Journal College Corner, Season Previews Women’s golf coach Jan Dowling announced her team’s 10-tournament regular-season schedule for the Wolverines’ upcoming 2019- 20 season. “We take a lot of pride in scheduling a nationally-competitive schedule,” said Dowling. “Our goal is to play the most competitive tournaments possible on great golf courses that test our ability to adapt to different conditions and grasses. The end goal is to help our team prepare for the postseason, and we are thrilled about these opportunities. This coming year certainly meets our expectations, and we are excited to test our mettle all season long.” Dowling’s seventh season with U-M begins with a local trip down US-23 to Toledo, Ohio, and the Inverness Club for the Inverness Women’s Intercollege (Sept. 16-17) before the Maize and Blue head to Chicago for Northwestern’s Windy City Classic (Sept. 30- Oct. 1) at the Westmoreland Country Club. The fall term will close with back-to-back events in North Carolina. First, it’s U-M’s fourth straight visit to North Carolina’s Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational (Oct. 11-13) at the Finley Golf Course. The first half of the season will end in Wilmington with a third straight trip to UNC Wilmington’s Landfall Tradition (Oct. 25-27) at the Country Club of Landfall. Come February, the Wolverines will open their spring season with a trip to Jalisco, Mexico, to play in host Virginia’s Guadalajara International Invitational (Feb. 16-18) at Guadalajara Country Club. U-M then will bookend its spring-break training trip with Miami’s Hurricane Invitational (March 2-3) at the Biltmore and will close it at Florida’s Gator Invitational (March 7-8) at the Mark Bostick Golf Course. Michigan finishes with three more events in March and April, before the Big Ten Championships.
