Michigan Golf Journal College Corner MSU Women’s Golf Adds Three for 2021 Brooke Biermann | Wildwood, Mo. A 2020 Rolex Junior First Team All-American, ranked No. 9 in the Rolex American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) rankings, and ranked No. 13 in the Golfweek Girls Junior rankings. Won the AJGA Stan Utley and Mid-America Youth Golf Foundation Junior Championship in July with a 5-under-par 139. Finished as the runner-up in a pair of high-profile AJGA events, including the Girls Invitational at Stanford in September and the Missouri Amateur Championship in July, which included a career- best 65 in round two. Qualified for the 2021 USGA Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship (as did 4 current Spartans: Lelia Raines/Valentina Rossi and Yurika Tanida/Sydney Naro). Qualified for match play at the 2020 Women’s Western Amateur. Won the 2019 Missouri Class 2 State Championship and finished second in both 2020 and 2018. Shannon Kennedy | Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Named the 2020 Michigan Miss Golf by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association, which also voted her a 3-time Super Team selection. Won three Michigan high school individual state finals: taking the Division 3 titles in 2020 and 2019 and the Division 2 title in 2017 as a freshman. Led her team to back-to-back D3 team state championships the past two seasons. Outside of high school golf, Kennedy advanced to the sweet 16 of the 2018 Michigan Women’s Amateur Championship. Also finished as runner-up at the Michigan Girls Junior Championship the same year. Named the 2019 Detroit Free Press Girls Golfer of the Year, the former hockey player improved her high school scoring average from 74 in 2019 to 69.75 in this, her senior year, at Marion High School. Katie Lu | Plainsboro, N.J. Ranked the No. 32 player in the class of 2021 in the Golfweek Girls Junior rankings and ranked No. 37 in the Rolex AJGA Class of 2021 rankings and No. 101 overall in the AJGA rankings. Won the 2020 New Jersey Junior Girls Championship with an even-par 144; and is the 2020 New Jersey Women’s Amateur Stroke Play champion. She then took second at the New Jersey PGA Junior Championship in August and finished as runner-up in the New Jersey Capital Cup and the AJGA KJ Choi Foundation Junior Championship. Won the 2018 New Jersey PGA Junior Open. Placed in the top five of the New Jersey High School Girls State Championship as a freshman; 2-time all- conference selection .
