Michigan Golf Journal Cover Story, Hunters Ridge Links at Hunters Ridge Ready for its Next 25 Years By Tom Lang This is one of those stories people in the golf industry like to hear: • Developers and first-time owners of a quality golf course lived their dream for 25 years, yet it was time to retire • A group of avid golfer friends since college come in and buy the place and invest new funds to make capital improvements and inject fresh ideas – wrapped around the sincere goal of attracting more youth and women to the game • They retain the course superintendent who has been there since day one • Competing golf courses show their kindness and class by offering advice to be successful This is the Links at Hunters Ridge, a very walkable golf course located in the farming region just north of Howell, between Lansing and Detroit. “When we first looked into it, we thought it was strange that we never heard of this course, given we often drive a lot farther to golf,” said Gary Kendra, one of the owners of the group made up of four married couples. “Then when we came out here it was just beautiful land. It’s out in the country so it’s very quiet. It’s got good bones, so we thought it was a good investment with a good group of people who could really make some improvements. And we thought it would be fun. “It’s always had a good reputation as a hidden gem, and that was the part we thought was the opportunity,” Kendra
