27 June 2020 www.michigangolfjournal.com the green and I’d play the hole from there, maybe as a par 4 or par 5. That kept me into it and let me score, because I was competitive, and didn’t want to make a 10 on every hole. I just think those early days, playing with my dad, I fell in love with it.” Q Do you see similarities between golf and football? A “The biggest difference to me is that football is so reactionary once the ball is snapped. But some of the mental preparation that I do going into games, playing the game in my head…I’m sure that a lot of the golfers who are really good players do that as well. There’s so much thinking that goes into it and then obviously those guys stand over the ball and then they let their natural talent and habits take over. It’s kind of the same for me; a lot of thinking, and then once the ball is snapped you just let your talent go from there.” Q Are there any teammates or other NFL players you don’t necessarily want to face on the golf course? A “I do play with Matt Ryan (Falcons) a decent amount there in the Atlanta area... He’s a really, really good player. About as good as I’ve been around that doesn’t play it professionally, or thinks they do. He gets it off the tee, plays good iron shots and is a really good putter. “I played quite a bit with (former teammate) Dan (Orlovsky). He’s another good golfer. I feel like most quarterbacks at least try and play or think they can. But golf is a fun game to play for sure.” Courtesy of Detroit Lions
