Michigan Golf Journal Salute to Nurses Saline native Sarah Hoffman knew she needed to help. Hoffman has been playing the Symetra Tour for several years, hoping to get that big break and reach the LPGA Tour. But when the COVID-19 outbreak occurred and the tour schedule was placed on hold, Hoffman put away her Callaway clubs, donned a face mask and other required personal protective equipment (PPE) to return to her job as a nurse at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor. Hoffman has worked in the orthopedic trauma unit since February 2014 during the months she is not playing the Symetra Tour. “I just couldn’t keep sitting on the couch and not helping my friends who were on the front lines,” she told Golfweek magazine. When the pandemic first made a ripple in the American healthcare landscape, COVID-19 patients at Michigan Medicine were cared for in the regional infectious containment unit (RICU).
