Their overall list included courses from each state, but the majority of states only had 5 or 10 top courses listed – while Michigan had 20 courses named. It was GolfWeek’s way of saying, ‘we know Michigan is an incredible golf state with so many wonderful choices compared to the rest of America,’ or something to that effect. Texas, which is what, 100 times the size of Michigan, also listed 20. The only states that had more top courses listed were year-round-play Florida, California and Arizona, at 30 each. Even huge golfing states like South Carolina, North Carolina, New York and Nevada came in at 15. And yes, Michigan fans, we beat out Ohio and Indiana, each having just 10 on the list – but Wisconsin is creeping closer at 15, with the addition of what are described by many golfers as spectacular new courses the past decade or so.
