Every golf resort saw near capacity rounds played. Treetops and BOYNE made major renovations to their accommodations, with more to come. Forest Dunes and Arcadia Bluffs continue to attract golfers to try their hand at those diverse tracks, plus the PGA TOUR, LPGA, Symetra and PGA TOUR Champions all held tournament around the state. Air travel service toTraverse City is bringing thousands of golfers toMichigan from all over the country. Without question the biggest story of 2021 was Michigan State University’s James Piot capturing the U.S. Amateur at Oakmont. It was the first ever U.S. Amateur win for a Michigan golfer. He also led the Spartans to a couple memorable wins this fall and will lead the team to try for an NCAA Division 1 in the Spring. He will play at August National for the Masters in April – we wish him well! His collegiate competitive days will be ending after the Spring Season and then we’ll have an opportunity to watch him on tour. The Michigan State University Women also have had another fantastic year in 2021 and are set to compete for the BIGTen title and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
