Prestwick Village to Host 100thMichigan PGA Professional Championship Prestwick Village Golf Club will host the 100th Michigan PGA Professional Championship in August. The private club, surrounded by a family- focused community, hosted the 100th playing of the Michigan Open Championship in 2017 as well as the three prior Opens. This is the first time it will host the Michigan PGA Professional Championship that brings together the top Michigan PGA Section professionals in the state. The 2021 field will play 54-holes over three days for an estimated purse of $55,000. The nine low scorers from the 100th championship qualify to participate in the 2022 PGA Professional Championship. That tournament, in April of 2022 determines a national champion as well as sending that tournament’s low 20 finishers on to the 2022 PGA Championship in May of 2022 at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J. The Michigan PGA Professional Championship dates to 1922. MGJ BlythefieldWins 2020 Design Excellence Recognition Award by ASGCA The ninth annual American Society of Golf Course Architects Design Excellence Recognition Program honorees have been named. Blythefield Country Club, host site of the Meijer LPGA Classic, was one of the golf facilities cited for their work with ASGCA members in addressing unique design challenges. Blythefield Country Club, Belmont, Michigan/Chris Wilczynski, ASGCA Blythefield was designed more than 90 years ago by William B. Langford and Theodore J. Moreau. A renovation has restored the course and Club to its original splendor. Improvements included: • New state-of-the-art two acre short-game practice facility • 12,000 SF putting green and putting course • Repositioning and rebuilding of all bunkers with the Better Billy Bunker System • Fairway realignment and widening • All greens expanded to their original shapes and sizes Tree removal has also opened the site panoramas, restored a cleaner look and created the width for each hole that Langford and Moreau intended.
