Michigan Golf Journal January 2021

Events Director Quincy Ranville said proceeds of Ice Golf help fund things like the summertime fireworks and live music programs in St. Ignace. “It’s a really unique event that people are drawn to,” she said. “The location each year depends on the quality of ice, but we almost always have at least one set of 9 holes near Bridge View Park, on Lake Huron. If the ice is really bad, we’ll play that same 9 twice, but usually the second 9 is near downtown right in the middle of the bay.” Ranville said traditionally the ice is always thick enough; it would be deemed ‘bad ice’ if during the freezing process the ice became chunky instead of leaving a smoother, flat surface. “Last year the ice froze really late so we didn’t have enough time to make a second nine, so we played the same 9 twice,” Ranville added. “It can be hit and miss, and we’ve moved locations over the years. That’s how it goes. You can’t trust Mother Nature for perfect ice.” Learn More: Here are the main details according to the events website at: https:// stignace.com/event/u-p- ice-golf-scramble-glow-ball- challenge/ Participants are provided with a FREE shuttle during the weekend in St. Ignace.
