Michigan Golf Journal July 2021
9 July 2021 www.michigangolfjournal.com This year, our circle of cars represents that international diversity very well. Bob Boniface’s 1975 Alfa Romeo squares off perfectly against Gary Bartlett’s 1974 BMW 2002. On paper, these cars are nearly identical, yet in reality, they are completely different. The Alfa, with its great proportions and just a hint of styling flamboyance, represents the Italian passion for “design as art.” The BMW, with its no- nonsense styling and total lack of frivolity, perfectly captures Germany’s obsession with “engineering as art.” Another special class of cars at this year’s show is The Wedge. This class celebrates the beauty of wedge-shaped exotic automobiles from the 1970s and 1980s. The Concours will tell the story of The Wedge by showing the full diversity of the trend, from ultimate dream cars like Bill Papke’s 1970 Lancia Stratos Zero Concept and Dan McDavid’s 1988 Lamborghini Countach to entry-level cars like Tim Bednark’s 1986 Subaru XT and Paul Valente’s Fiat X1/9 and everything in between. The show takes place on Sunday, July 25th at The Inn at St. John’s , in Plymouth. Advance ticket packages start at $35.00. The event is family friendly, and admission is free for children 12 and under. MGJ Play 18. Repeat. Now’s the time to play two award-winning courses to their fullest.
