Michigan Golf Journal ichigan Open The Michigan Open is the most prestigious golf championship in the Great Lakes State – and no other venue has hosted the Michigan Open more times than Grand Traverse Resort and Spa. The 2021 version is coming, June 14-17. The Michigan Open dates back to competition in 1916 and the highly- acclaimed Northern Michigan resort hosted the most consecutive years ever, from 1981 through 2008. Spruce Run was the venue in the early years, before the competition was moved over to The Bear, Jack Nicklaus’ signature golf course in Michigan.
