GAM Asking for Help with New USGA Rating Study GAM is working with the USGA to conduct a study of short courses relevant to handicap. Currently USGA’s Rules of Golf require courses be longer than 1,500 yards for nine holes and over 3,000 yards for 18, to record a score for handicap purposes. Michigan golfers can help provide data for this research by posting their scores on two Michigan short courses: • Threetops Golf Course at Treetops Resort in Gaylord • Green Course at Bay Meadows Family GC in Traverse City If you have played one of these two courses in 2022 and have hole-by-hole scoring information, complete the electronic form from the links below prior to October 15. Golf News Michigan John Barbour of Grand Rapids remained patient, playing through lightning, an overnight delay, losing the lead and a three-hole sudden-death playoff at Red Run Golf Club. After holing an eight-foot par-saving putt on the third playoff hole, the 64-year-old President Emeritus of GAM won the 36th GAM Senior Championship presented by Garland Lodge & Golf Resort. “It’s absolutely my biggest win. This is state-wide and there are a bunch of great names on that trophy and I’m very, very pleased to join them.” He shot a closing 2-over 74, finishing the last two holes of regulation play Wednesday morning with bogeys for 146.
