Michigan Golf Journal July 2024

July Is A Busy Month in Michigan July a very busy month for golfers in Michigan. Amateur and professional tournaments abound in every part of the state. Out of state visitors cram the roadways searching for cooler weather and manicured fairways and greens. Tourism in Michigan is big business and golf plays a huge role in that equation. Resorts like BOYNE, Gaylord Golf Mecca, Treetops, Garland, Arcadia Bluffs and others welcome thousands of golfers to the Mitten State. We traveled to Ireland to enjoy Irish hospitality and the wonderful courses on the Erin Isle and came away very impressed. We hope you enjoy the section devoted to our travel to the Emeral Isle as much as we enjoyed playing those great Irish courses. St. Johns Resort in Detroit officially opened their new course, The Cardinal. It is a Ray Hearn masterpiece, plus the par 3 and putting course add to the enjoyment. This is a beautiful property and everyone should stop by and check it out. This month’s feature destination is Pinehurst. Under the direction of Tom Pashley, it has continued to grow and their long-term arrangement with the USGA assures it will be one of the premier golf destinations for many years to come. We visited American Dunes for the Intrepid Invitational and urge everyone, not only golfers, to see for yourself the unique memorial Dan Rooney and Jack Nicklaus have built to honor military veterans and first responders. I will be playing a lot of golf this month. I hope I see you on the Back 9.
