Hailey Borja, a fifth-year Senior on UM’s Women’s Golf Team, had a successful Augusta National Women’s Amateur (ANWA) performance last month in one of the premier women’s amateur golf tournaments in the world.
The Augusta National Women’s Amateur invites 72 of the top women amateur golfers from around the world. Borja was making a return visit to famed Augusta National, as she first competed in the event in 2022, finishing in 12th place.
Borja has continued her successful collegiate career at the University of Michigan. Going back to last Fall, she has finished top-ten in four of her last six events and is ranked No. 105 on the Women’s Amateur Golf Ranking.
After the first two rounds of the ANWA held at Champions Retreat Golf Club, on Wednesday and Thursday, Borja found herself in a tie for fifth position earning her a chance to play in the final round at Augusta National on Saturday.
All 72 players are invited to play a practice round on Augusta National on Friday with the final round featuring only the Top 30 women.
Borja carded a final round two-over par 74 on Augusta to finish inside the top ten (T-8) for the second time in her career.
She did not rest after her strong performance, however, and rejoined the UM Women’s Golf team for the Big Ten Championships, April 19-21, at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
