Anthony Sorentino Wins Second Michigan Publinx Title

By Greg Johnson

Anthony Sorentino of Rochester Hills picked up his second Michigan Publinx Match Play Championship title.

The 48-year-old attorney won his first title in 2021, but has lost three times in the final match, including each of the last two years. This year, however, he beat Josh Lahner in 19 holes to claim the 2026 title match Monday at Twin Lakes Golf Club.

He made a two-putt par while Lahner, a Wayne State University golfer from Roseville, Illinois carded a three-putt bogey on the first playoff hole.

“Oh yeah, it felt good to win today,” Sorentino said. “Especially because it gets harder all the time. These kids playing on these college teams, like Wayne State, they are all better now and they hit it a mile like Josh.”

Sorentino, who has been the Michigan Publinx Player of the Year four times, had to work an extra hole in the morning semifinal match. He fought off Jeffrey Andrus, a Central Michigan University golfer from Clawson, in 19 holes.
