August Meekhof of Eastmanville didn’t reach all of his 2019 golf goals, but he reached one half of a two-part primary goal he has harbored since his start in the game – he signed a letter of intent with the golf program at Michigan State University.
“It has been my goal ever since I was little – to become a college golfer and after that be on the PGA Tour,” he said. “It’s awesome Michigan State gave me the opportunity.”
Meekhof, currently playing on the Allendale High School varsity basketball team, highlighted his golf season by taking the early lead in stroke play at the U.S. Junior Amateur at Inverness Club in Toledo. He eventually tied for 16th to make it through to match play but he lost in the first round of matches.
Meekhof won the overall title in the GAM Junior Kickoff Championship, made match play at the Michigan Amateur Championship and competed on the American Junior Golf Association circuit.
