Michigan State junior golfer Allyson Geer-Park, a native of Brighton, Mich., has been selected to play in the Augusta National Women’s Amateur this April. Geer was one of just 72 golfers chosen to play in the prestigious inaugural event.
“I’m so honored by this amazing opportunity and what it means to me and women’s golf,” Geer-Park said in a statement provided by Michigan State University. “It’s going to be an amazing experience and something I will be grateful for the rest of my life.”
The 54-hole stroke play event will take place April 3-6. The first 36 holes will be contested over two days on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., April 3-4. A cut will take place following the first 36 holes with the remaining 30 players advancing to the final round on April 6 at Augusta National Golf Club.
“It’s a true honor for Ally to be selected as one of 72 players for the Augusta National Women’s Amateur,” MSU head coach Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll added. “It is a dream of any golfer who loves the game to be on the grounds of Augusta, let alone have the opportunity to play the course.
“It has been a goal of Ally’s to be selected for this event since we heard about it last April and seeing her name on the beautiful green invitation with her name on it is very cool. Ally is a wonderful ambassador for our program and Michigan State University and we are all excited for her.”
Geer, an honorable mention WGCA All-American and 2-time first team All-Big Ten selection in her first two seasons, is currently ranked 76th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. Geer recorded the second-lowest season average in MSU school history last year (71.61). Her summer 2018 also included qualifying for the U.S. Women’s Amateur and she played on her second consecutive sponsor’s exemption for the Meijer LPGA Classic, and earned a sponsor’s invite to the LPGA’s Symetra Tour contest in Battle Creek.
The entire amateur field will get the opportunity to play Augusta National for an official practice round Friday, April 5, followed the next day by the championship’s final round featuring the top 30 women competitors who made the original cut.
On Sunday, April 7, the Drive Chip and Putt Nationals will take place, before the traditional week of The Master’s commences on Monday.
