Eagles for Children, a charitable organization made up of nine private golf clubs in metro Detroit, raised $415,000 last year for 30 local charities – bringing the total since inception to roughly $1.6 million.
In a nutshell, club members commit to pledge money for every eagle that is scored by anyone at their club during the golf season. Generally, members make a $2 pledge for each eagle; many give more.
Oakland Hills, Walnut Creek and Pine Lake Country Clubs were the three initial private clubs to start in 2012. Since then they have been joined by Western Golf and Country Club, Red Run, CC of Detroit, Meadowbrook, Birmingham and Orchard Lake Country Clubs.
