Eric Lilleboe Wins 107th Michigan Open

The 107th Hall Financial Michigan Open Championship was contested June 10-13, at Oakland University on the Katke-Cousins Course.

Eric Lilleboe of Okemos won for the second time at Oakland University Golf & Learning Center. The 36-year-old PGA of America’s touring professional previously won the title in 2019.

His closing 1-over par 72 in wind-whipped conditions was good enough to give him a four-shot win and the $15,000 first-place check.

“It’s very nice. That course was a bear, really firm greens, really tough to play in the wind, and I was very happy obviously to be where I was.”

Tyler Copp of Ann Arbor, also a PGA Tour Americas player, led after the first round and made a birdie on the final hole to finish in second place alone and earned $10,000. Six golfers tied for third.

The Michigan Open has been won by several famous names in the past beginning with Walter Hagen in 1921. Michigan PGA Professional Scott Hebert is tied with Al Watrous with six Michigan Open titles. Legendary Michigan amateur, Chuck Kocsis, who played on three Walker Cup teams, won three Michigan Open titles. Other notable multiple winners include; Randy Erskine (5), Chick Harbert (4),  Walter Burkemo (4), John Barnum (4), Marvin Stahl (3), Steve Brady (3),Ryan Brehm (3) and Jake Kneen (2).
