Tiger fans heading to Lakeland, Florida can take the 32-mile drive south of Joker Merchant Stadium to the incredible Streamsong Resort, or also try a local favorite in The Club at Eaglebrooke. It’s a semi-private, more laid-back approach to golf with a smart assortment of waste bunkers and water, water, water. Many former Detroit Tigers have played at the club.
The most challenging – and also most attractive – stretch is holes 12-17.
No. 12 is a nice, slightly downhill par 3 that leads to the par 4, 13th hole – which is highlighted by a long, stretched-out, island fairway requiring a tee shot long enough to carry water but not too long or to the right to go through the fairway into another hazard. Once that is accomplished, an approach shot to clear water and reach the green is forthcoming.
No. 14 is a long par 3 that is all carry over water and a beach-front style, huge sand trap guarding the entire width of a large green.
No. 17 is a potentially-reachable par 5 dog-leg left, but not so fast. It can require a lay-up second shot for most golfers into a narrow part of the fairway that also slopes to the right toward water for golfers who lack the length to go for the green and a namesake eagle putt.
