GAM Women’s Senior Championship: Joan Garety

HARBOR SPRINGS – Ada’s Joan Garety, age 63, won her fifth GAM Women’s Senior Championship by one shot over 2-time champion Terry Delcamp of Grand Blancat Harbor Point Golf Club.   Maureen Whitehead of Charlevoix, another 2-time winner, finished third with 161 in the 36-hole event.

Garety, 63, and a Michigan Golf Hall of Famer, shot a closing 76 for 158, slipping past Delcamp, who shot 159. The two are close friends and often partners in team tournaments.

“Of course, I want to beat her, and she wants to beat me,” Garety said. “We play to win.”

A field of 65 senior women age 50-plus played in the championship. Three additional flights were determined over two days of stroke play – with gross and net prizes awarded. Karin Flood of Mt. Clemens was the Super Senior winner among golfers over age 65.
