EAST LANSING – Sophie Stevens of Highland, age 13, and Justin Sui of Lake Orion, 14, could have played in the 15-and-under age group, but tested themselves against the older and best golfers in the 7th GAM Junior Invitational.
They passed the test – winning the overall titles in the season-ending 36-hole championship hosted by Forest Akers West Golf Course at MSU.
Sui, who also won the 2019 MHSAA Div. 1 state title in a playoff against Coalter Smith of Grosse Pointe South in June, shot a closing 3-under 69 for 141 to take boys’ title by one shot over Tyler Eedy of West Branch (142).
Stevens was the 15-and-under girls’ winner a year ago and competed at Augusta National in the Drive, Chip and Putt. Her 147 was one shot over runner up Shannon Kennedy of Beverly Hills.
- 15-and-under age boys’ winner: Ryan O’Rourke of West Bloomfield (who also won the Michigan Junior State Amateur.)
- 15-and-under girls’ winner: Lauren Timpf of Macomb
