JOHN SHIPPEN National Invitational Helps Black Golfers

One important aspect of the Rocket Mortgage Classic is the inclusion of top Black amateur and professional golfers.

On June 27-28, the JOHN SHIPPEN National Invitational showcased top Black collegiate and professional golfers. Shippen was the first American-born golf professional, as well as, the first Black golf professional, who competed professionally 1896-1913.

The winner of the men’s division will receive an exemption into the PGA Tour’s Rocket Mortgage Classic held at Detroit Golf Club July 28-31.

Top Black women golfers compete in two-player teams to earn an exemption into the LPGA’s Great Lakes Bay Invitational to be held July 14-17 at Midland Country Club.

To ensure no financial barriers restrict the players, The JOHN SHIPPEN Invitational covers all expenses, airfare, as well as, hotel costs for the participants.
