Michigan College Golf Teams Add New Recruits

Both Michigan and Michigan State gained some significant golfers for their teams on National Signing Day in mid-November.

The Michigan women’s team added the state’s top two junior golfers in Anika Dy of Traverse City West, and Mikaela Schulz of Bloomfield Hills. Dy is a three-time Div. 1 state champ and three-time Miss Golf, and reached Augusta National twice for the Drive, Chip and Putt finals (2015-16).

Schulz, ranked No. 1 in the state, finished state runner up to Dy twice, but won the GAM Junior Girls Championship in the summer and earned GAM Junior Girl Player of the Year. She is the cousin of pros Morgan and Madison Pressel.

The Michigan men signed Kevin Healy of Rockford. The current high school senior placed runner up in the state finals in the spring to now U-M golfer Patrick Sullivan.

MSU’s men’s team signed Pierce Morrissey of Big Rapids and Bradley Smithson of Grand Rapids. Morrissey won the Division 3 state title in the spring and will defend in 2019. Smithson won the 2018 Michigan Boys Junior PGA Championship. He was the youngest player to ever qualify for and make the cut in the Michigan Open.

The MSU women’s team signed two international players: Sydney Naro of Toronto, who will enroll in January and play the spring schedule – and Nina Rissi of Spain, who will arrive for next fall of 2019.
