Pinehurst To Build 11th Course
Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw have been retained by Pinehurst to design their newest course, No. 11. It will be the first original design from Coore & Crenshaw at Pinehurst, however they did complete the renovation of No. 2, in 2011.
No. 11 will be located on the Pinehurst Sandmines property beside No. 10 and is targeted for a 2027 opening.
One of the unique features of No. 11 will be the remnants of the giant spoil piles left behind from mining operations on the site. These are over 100 years old and have matured into a very natural landform.
A 6,000-square-foot pro shop and locker room will open in June and in August, Sandmines’s restaurant and bar will open to guests. Plans for guest cottages or other potential lodging are ongoing and could be in place by the end of 2027.
When No. 11 is completed, it will push Pinehurst’s total to a whopping 207 holes of golf at ‘The Home of American Golf.’
Reynolds Lake Oconee to Open New Course Next Year
Reynolds Lake Oconee has announced plans for an eighth course, Fenmoor Golf Club. The new addition will add a third private, member-only layout, with a grand opening slated for Fall 2026.
Designed by acclaimed architect Steve Smyers, Fenmoor is being built in the northeast corner of the 12,000-acre community and will feature dramatic elevation changes, native grasses, and extensive water features drawn from nearby Lake Oconee and Richland Creek.
Nine greens will border the lake, with water visible from much of the routing. The new course was a necessity for Reynolds Lake Oconee as annual golf rounds played have increased by 44% since 2020 and the community’s younger member base.
Fenmoor will include a clubhouse with dining and locker facilities, a putting course, and expanded short-game practice areas.
