Pohl and Roth Team Up to Win PGA Pro-Pro Championship
Two Arizona Wildcat alums and Michigan residents – Dan Pohl and Jeff Roth – teamed up to win the Michigan PGA Section’s Pro-Pro Championship in early May, shooting a 128 total, 14-under par for a 4-shot victory over Al Kuhn (Oakhurst) and Tom Harding (Kendall Academy).
Pohl and Roth shot 64-64, in the morning at Bloomfield Hills CC and then again in the afternoon at Franklin Hills CC in the 36-hole best ball event. The field had 92 teams.
Roth just returned to the Michigan Section after spending the past eight seasons at San Juan Country Club in New Mexico. He is now teaching at Boyne Highlands. Pohl is back in the Michigan Section under a new role of Director of Golf Operations at the PohlCat, the course he designed in the early 1990’s. Dan is a Mt. Pleasant native and played on the PGA Tour from 1978 through most of the ‘80s, and was a Ryder Cup player for Jack Nicklaus.
Ironically, the morning after winning the Pro-Pro, Pohl was on the 17th tee at PohlCat digging in the dirt to prep for spring golfers.
Dodson, Dodson, Gisi and Pesta win the Club Car Spring Scramble
It took 4 extra holes for the team of Michigan PGA Professionals Andrew Dodson (Golf TEC-Novi), Travis Dodson (Meadowbrook CC), Marlon Gisi (GolfTEC-Troy) and Matt Pesta (Lincoln Hills GC) to capture the championship held at the Marriott at Eagle Crest Resort in the opening event for the Michigan PGA Section Tournament season.
Two other teams finished the day at 16-under to force 3-team playoff. The Red Run CC team of Mark Johnson, Cody Haughton, Patrick Humphries and Steve Naelon as well as the team of professional Chis Sullivan from Sun Mountain and his amateur partners Pete Farner, Ryan Johnson and Anthony Sorentino each finished at 16-under as well.
