The Wolverines have two stallworths back to lead the team this school year: lone senior Elodie Van Dievoet will be looked to guide U-M in her final season and will get full support from Ashley Kim. They were two of three Wolverines to start every event last season.
Van Dievoet has started 27 of 28 career events and became U-M’s first All-American and first Wolverine to capture the Big Ten individual title, in 2017. She holds the program’s all-time single season scoring record at 73.09 (2016-17) and is on pace to set the career scoring record.
Kim’s career-low 66 (6-under) last season at the Ruth’s Chris Tar Heel Invitational matched her older sister, Megan (2015-18), as the only other Wolverine in program history to card a 66 in an event. Ashley Kim added the distinction of being invited to play as a sponsor’s exemption in the 2018 LPGA Volvik Championship in Ann Arbor.
“Elodie has been our on-course leader, and I know she is so excited to play for Michigan one last season,” said 6th-year head coach Jan Dowling. “She loves golf and loves to compete for our team, and that energy is contagious. With that said, Ashley has a competitive nature and leadership style that will really help our freshmen settle in.
“Our freshmen have so much tournament experience they are bringing to our program. Ashley (Lau) is the most decorated freshmen to sign a NLI for program history. Sophia (Trombetta) has a great athletic background and love for the game that will also be contagious. Everyone will work hard to get this group working together very quickly, and we are so excited to get started together as a team.”
