Things Overheard at the Inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic

Rickie Fowler:

The fans have been amazing, especially to me, but I’ve heard a lot of stories from other players out here that they’ve been super appreciative of everyone being up here to support the event and to be here in Detroit. So, I think all in all, a success, very successful week, and looking forward to making year two even better.

Gary Woodland, fresh off his U.S. Open victory:

“The crowds, the golf course, everything was great this week. The energy. Nice having a new tournament and getting the support that they have.”

Bubba Watson, two-time Masters champion who donated $20,000 to First Tee in Detroit:

“Detroit. It’s amazing. Gosh, nothing but all the sports and different things that’s happened in this area. Then when you talk about the Ford Museum, where my kids loved, and seeing some of the old history and different things…the first F-150 (on display at the museum) that was pretty cool to see…so, it’s the history and the things that have come out of this city has been amazing, what I’ve learned. So, to be here to play golf is fun. It’s pretty neat.”

Charles Howell III, who was in the top 5 after two rounds:

“The crowd’s been fantastic. I remember the Buick Open in Flint many years ago. The crowd support there was fantastic, (so) it’s no surprise. The fans know their golf and it’s neat to see. They come out for the guys like Bubba Watson and Rickie (Fowler), who I played with. A lot of support. It’s a really strong turnout and I hope it continues.”

Brandt Snedeker:

“It was a great week. I was kind of blown away for a first-time event with the fans and the outpouring of support we felt as the players this week…I haven’t felt that in a long time out here, to see so many people grateful for us coming up here and playing golf…Normally these things take a few years to really get their stronghold going, but I’ve been thanked by more fans this week for coming to play golf, which just blew me away…I haven’t seen anything like this on Tour for a long time.”
