Tom Doak Interviewed By Golf Course Architecture Magazine

Superstar golf course designer Tom Doak had an interview with Adam Lawrence for Golf Course Architecture Magazine, and admitted he is trying to change his process for creating new courses.

The travel and long stretches away from home has become a burden and he is trying to decrease his time away from family.

He feels his biggest strength is in creating the correct routing for the land on which the course will be situated. He loves working in the dirt and running a dozer, but his time is too valuable to be spent on the course.

He has also stepped away from much of his consulting work for individual courses, but when pressed he admitted,

“I’m still signed up to do whatever we’re going to do at Crooked Stick. I spent time there with Mr Dye, I know a couple of the members well and they really want me to. I never say never, but it’s really unlikely I would take on more.”

Crooked Stick in Carmel has been the site of several major championships and PGA Tour events. Doak’s continued involvement in the course should be a very good sign for Indiana golfers.

Doak resides in Traverse City and has been involved in several designs in Michigan. He was responsible for ‘The Loop,’ reversible course at Forest Dunes, in Roscommon.
