Tips provided by Jordan Young, Fox Hills Learning Center, Plymouth
EQUIPMENT – Make sure to have your equipment evaluated and tested. Many students come in to work on their game with the wrong equipment, almost 50 percent. You certainly can’t buy your game, but you can provide yourself with the best opportunity to improve.
FITNESS – Get an evaluation of your golf fitness levels with a TPI professional or a partner who works alongside your coach. After a physical movement evaluation, weaknesses are uncovered, and exercises prescribed to develop better habits.
SPEED TRAIN – Make sure you get “base line tested” for swing patterns, characteristics and speed. From this initial test, you can track your development and changes. You will find out where you are leaking speed and power. Most likely, you have it in you to swing faster or without tension; you just need to release the power! We use many methods but are currently focused on the Mach3 Speed training program, an extensive training method with movement patterns that is very simple to coach. Watch your speeds increase 3-15MPH and yardage go up with each club.
PRACTICE – Coaching programs and practice should be a mix of random and block, with a variety of gamified testing. Hitting the same shot over and over is not the most effective way to work on your game. In golf, you never hit the same shot twice, it is always changing. So, it is best to mix in these types of practice patterns within your training. I train my students in a wide variety of areas and we keep things fresh every week.
MENTAL GAME – Learn more about your mental game with Vision54! No-one likes to face their fears in this area. Most feel they are not going to gain anything from this type of training. Vision54 and their methods are very powerful for success. Each individual has unlimited human potential. “Technical skills” combined with “Human skills” produces an end result, how we perform. We all need to learn how to be our “own best coach” and we always need coaching to highlight, “how we feel about ourselves and our games directly effects our performance.” We must be “Masters of Variability” … because consistency does not exist!
